Best Friend

You know who you are, even if you don't read this-

Christ, we've had ups and downs and were in a bit of a bog here. That's why I can so easily say you're basically my sister- even if we bicker and make a fuss about stupid crap. So basically you know pretty much everything about me, and vice versa. I can always count on you to tell me "abby, stop. You're brain isn't strong enough fpr that much thinking." And I thank you for that :D

Sincerely,
Abigail/

Short infinitessimal update

All right, I've been a tad absent. BUT I have a few things to update on that will be feautured in a new post-

1. Lady Ga- evolution from Just Dance to Bad Romance (we're doing music analysis in music and I can't resist)

2. A picture of my red dress that I made a while back.

3. A picture of the Purple flats I bought from a vintage store and the skirt I made to match. As well as the outfit I put together to match.

4. My dislike of upcoming school feild trips and

5. A few clippings from my "Wall of Fame"

So as soon as I get caught up in homework, finish an essay, and get computer time, I'll finish this.

Update/Feature!

First a rant on my computer- IT SUCKS. It's a Toshiba tablet laptop from '04 which makes it 84759834 in computer age years. Really. The "m" key doesn't work half the time, it's EXCRUTIATINGLY slow, and general FAIL issues, including multiple blue screens of death.

needed that out of my system. NOW I got my sephora stuff! I was so excited! General infor on whaat I got and a rating on *-***** stars.

Stila Sheer Color SPF15 Tinted Moisturizer in Fair ****
I am rediculously pale all year round, and this actually fit my skin tone quite nicely! I don't like foundation due to how it makes my skin look bumpy, bigger pores and such. I don't have that issue with this and it makes my skin feel nice and soft :) I have a little bit uneven skin color, but this fixed it up quite nicely. It was a tad expenseive for me, it the price was $5-$10 cheaper, then it'd be five stars.
buy here!

Stila Lip & Cheek Stain in Cherry Crush ****
See the first tube on the left? I got that one. I really like it. It's sheer enough to look natural, and if you want a cute natural look you probably want this color. It. smells. DELICIOUS. But it doesn't taste as good, sadly. It's also a little hard to apply to lips, as it can get a tad messy. Cheek stain- it gets five stars. Lip stain- it gets three stars, averaging to four. Still a tad expensive, but this one's worth it.
buy it here!

TheBalm TimeBalm Concealer ($18) *****
I originally heard of this in sephora's book with their top products, and this was in the top ten. I got this in Lighter than Light. Let e tell you, I have horrible darkness under my eyes. They are dark enough to be considered a sub-space dimension. They're that bad. The other concealers that I've tried are ok but they only keep my dark circles at bay for a little while. This baby got them covered quite nicely. When it's in the little pot thingy it smells a little odd but nothing happened to my eyes so I'm not concered. I tried using a brush to apply it but really, your ring finger works best at spreading, blending, and overall applying. Overall, a great product.
buy here!

I got this great book from the library recently- 50's Fashion: Vintage Fashion and Beauty Ads, Ed. Jim Heimann. I've really been into the fifties lately, and I'm working on a fifties-inspired dress.

This dress is absolutely amazing. It's made by this girl whose profile I stumbled upon on burdastyle.com. She was the featured member yesterday, and you really need to see her other stuff. MELONHEAD'S PROFILE!

Valentino, J Crew and Wunderkind

I was browsing through my style.com app and to my utter surprise there was J CREW which happens to be one of my favorite brands EVER. And I love this collection. It gives mr a cute Parisienne vibe. With a smattering of English breakfast. Yumm.

These red carpet looks from Valentino fall 2010 for some reason reminded me of Christian Siriano's work from project runway.

I like the pink one better because the black one's neckline reminds me of little house on the prairie, especially with the loose sleeves bound at the wrist.

I've never seen anything by Wunderkind. And then I had a study class where I had nothing to do. And I saw awesome.

Pretty pretty pretty. I liked the pants on the second picture because they look like they were rinsed in a mixture of tea and the dirty water you get cleaning brushes after painting. I like the effect.

IT'S POCHAHONTAS.

Ok if you haven't heard the song "Marsh King's Daughters" by Eisley, go to iTunes and get it. NOW. Before I come over there and make you. This is what I see the marsh girl wearing and looking like.

So basically school sucks. It sucks your life away. I mean I love my school but hey, it's still school. That's why I haven't updated as much. I will post outfits and a few reviews of sephora stuff I bought (Stila tinted moisturizer and lip/cheek stain as well as the famed TheBalm TimeBalm concealed) I SWEAR I WONT PROCRASTINATE.

Anna Sui Spring 2010 Ready to Wear

I swear, I love this iPod touch. I can listen to music AND check fashion shows with the style.com app AND update L+S+EN. Bam.

So I had no homework left and nothig to do so I scanned the list of shows and can across the Anna Sui collection for spring. Holy. Crap.

In order from top to bottom. PLUS a lovely commentary and rating system by me. I don't really know what I'm talkig about but.

• I like the layering of patterns here. It's awesome and busy. But it works because it's all blue-based. *** three stra because I don love the skirt and the vest seems a little off to me.

• I love the colour scheme here. It's so dang summery it reminds me of a Popsicle. **** four because again the skirt seems a little off to me.

• *****. Five stars. I love how summery and earthy Boho hippie love child flower this is.

• PURPLE MAH FAVORITE COLOR ****

• this is awesome. Purple meets veteran school girl who looks innocent enough but has a harsh vocabulary and regularly runs away from her expensive but restricting boarding school so that she can freely paint in a valley of violets.

I migh update this a little more. But I procrastinate. Stop procrastination.

My wonderfully average weekend.

I'm back again, and this is how it's gone-

Thursday I left school and sat through a four-hour car ride to the amazing state of new hampsire to go skiing. Brother hogged the dvd player.

Friday I woke up to go to Loon mountain for my first day of spring skiing. It was 75 DEGREES OUTSIDE. It's spring skiing, BUT SERIOUSLY. And I'm not a fan of spring skiing conditions, and I was rediculously tired after an hour and a half of trekking through snow. SO what else to do than take the Kangamangus Highway to North Conway to go to Zeb's general store? Alas, it was 80 degrees at hte highest point and the view was of a snow-covered Mount Washington. But I got a cute LL Bean striped cardigan and Vermont Cookie Buttons in Double Vanilla which made my day.

Saturday I had to leave because I had to work sunday. We went skiing at canon and I decided to stick to the bunny slopes and practic hotdogging (thats ski lingo terminology for freestyle, my fellow skiers.) and mainly, not faint from heat.

SUNDAY, oh boy, was WORK WORK WORK. I do childcare at my church and watch the kids who are too young to go to service. At the busiest point, I had 8 kids, 2 parents, adn 2 under-two year olds, five potty trips, and 1 meltdown. But to make it better I spent nearly $40 on fabric to make a dress and a romper.

SPEAK OF THE DEVIL I have a picture of the dress I made, and it got good reception and I did not fall down stairs in heels.

Ignore the fact that in this picture it looks like the strap is a little weird. I love this dress. And I'm using the same skirt pattern to work on a dress inspired by my favorite TV character on my favorite TV show, Pushing Daisies. I love the character "Chuck" (name's really Charlotte). Google the show. Wiki. Yahoo. Youtube. Just tune in, turn off, drop out, drop in, switch off, switch on and explode.

If you get that last reference then you have my undying love.

Thursday, March 18, 2010

This is so terrible of me, but I'm skipping school on friday to go skiing... considering we're already at the mountain and it's 50 degrees F at 9 at night, there own't be much snow soon. Therefore logic states that we should take all out time skiing. RIGHT?

I might upload a few pics of me skiing. I'm actually ok at it (that makes one sport).

I arrive home on saturday evening becuase I have to work Sunday so I will update with my views on a fashion show and hoprfully the rest of the pictures from the fashion show.

PS My sincerest apologies for the pictures being sideways. My bad.

School Fashion Show Part 1

Tomorrow is my school's "green club" fashion show featuring outfits put together from pieces from local vintage and thrift shops. I'm gonna be there taking pictures/ making notes and I get an article in the school newspaper! It's a semi-formal affair and since I had nothing to wear.... I decided HEY I'LL MAKE A DRESS even through I'm still new at sewing. My gramma came over and helped me make it and I love it with all my heart. So tomorrow or Thursday I'll have a pic of my dress and coverage/pictured of the show too.

From the Cape with love-
Abigail

Loius Vuitton Fall 2010 Collection

I love these dresses. I'd wear one if they weren't as low cut and only $50. 'Tis not meant to be. sigh.

This was one of my absolute favorite pieces this season. The fabric flows and has gorgeous movement, and the contrast of the black and floral with the belt makes me swoon with envy. WANT WANT WANT. Almost every single model had their hair swept up and slicked back into ponytails. Easy enough for us who are extremely uncoordinated with their hair (ME).

I really like the full pleated skirt here. I'm actually making a dress right now that has a skirt just like htat and hits about the same place. Look at me, I'm gonna be FASHIONABLE! *gasp!* The top reminds me of Monet's moody impressions of night skies and oceans. So asdfghjkl mindblowing filled with love. The bow in the front of the shirt makes me think of the Madeliene books- remember the little girl in paris with her spanish friend and the rest of the orphans?
Plaid. I loved it years before it came in for fall '09. I love the a-line silhouette of the dress, and the coat reminds me of madeliene (see above?) I want this dress. And the heels with the flat bows and the glossy beige bag fit and tie the whole ensemble fantastically.

However, even though I did love hte show almost entirely, I didn't appreciate the red carpet gowns at the end... in particular this one:
To me it looks like a summer maxi dress with a trash bag pinned of the back. I just don't like how the dress seems to fan in the back with different, shiny, almost plastic-looking fabric. Meh.
But the rest of the collection was awesome. My lookbook on style.com gained another 20 peices.

McQueen Fall 2010

Most people know that the designer Alexander McQueen comitted suicide a few weeks ago and died at age 40. He was reported saying that he wanted his house of design to go on after he died... And so the fall collection was unveiled on a somber affair.

The collection featured rich reds, golds, and muted tones. McQueen is greatly missed by everyone in the fashion industry.

My favorite FAVORITE part of the collction was the beautifully deep reds he used.
